Water Sources
Connect long garden hoses with spray nozzles to outdoor faucets. Leave trash cans or buckets filled with water around the outside of your home.

Leave a sign directing firefighters to water sources, such as pools or ponds. If available, place portable pumps near ponds or pools.

Roof
Wet down combustible shake and shingle roofs. Prop a non-wood ladder against the house opposite the approaching fire for easy firefighter roof access.

Windows, Vents, & Doors
Close all exterior vents, windows, and doors, including garage doors. If there is time, cover windows, vents and attic openings with at least ½-inch thick plywood.

Outdoor Furniture & Items
Move all combustible patio furniture and outdoor decorations inside the house or garage.

Landscaping
Wet down landscaping with the sprinkler system or hose, especially landscaping around the perimeter of your home.

Lights
Leave on exterior lights to help firefighters locate your home in heavy smoke.

Vehicles
Ensure evacuation vehicles are fueled.

Park vehicles in the garage facing out with keys in ignition.
